Zimbabwe: a prophet imprisoned for rape

St Peters UNITED Apostolic Church leader Enock Chivhunga has been jailed for 10 years after he was found guilty of raping a worshiper under the guise of cleansing her of evil spirits.

Chivhunga, from Chinamhora, was first jailed for 12 years when he appeared before Harare Regional Mr Kudakwashe Mhene.

Two years of his sentence have been waived on the condition that he does not commit a similar offense within the next five years.

Mr Shepherd Makonde, prosecuting, alleges that in December 2019, Chivhunga proposed love to his devotee and was refused.

Chivhunga tried several times but failed.

On May 15, 2020, he went to the woman’s home where he told her that her husband had called him asking for prayers for their children. The children were not at home, but insisted on praying for them.

Chivhunga was invited to a guest bedroom where he began to pray for the woman.

In the process, the collapsed woman woke up only after a few minutes, but Chivhunga was already gone. At the bath, she noticed that someone had been intimate with her.

On May 20, 2020, Chivhunga came back and told the woman that the holy spirit had sent him to cast out a demon from his body.

They entered the house where he also “prayed” and raped her.
