• BLOOD DRIVE: Remington’s Apostolic Christian Fellowship Hall will host an American Red Cross blood drive on Friday, August 5 from 2-6 pm EST. The hall is located inside the Apostolic Christian Church at 16448 S. US 231 in Remington.

• ARTCAMP RETURNS: The Prairie Art Council ArtCamp will take place the week of July 18 at venues in Rensselaer and Wheatfield. More than 40 workshops will be offered. To register, go to the PAC website or visit the PAC office at the Carnegie Center on Rensselaer on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

• COMEDY NIGHT AT THE FAIR: The Rensselaer Area Minister’s Association will be sponsoring Comedy Night at the Jasper County Fair on Wednesday, July 27 in the Grandstand. Comedian Rik Roberts of Nashville, Tennessee will perform as well as the Warren family, who will lead the audience in songs to sing along to before Roberts takes the stage. The Warren family will then close the evening with more music. Admission to the event is free, but any donations to Helping Hans would be appreciated.

• REMINGTON PARK COUNCIL: The Remington Park Council will meet on Thursday, July 14 at 6:30 p.m. EST at Remington City Hall at 24 S. Indiana St.

• KIDS NIGHT: Kids Night – sponsored by the Great Chamber of Commerce and local businesses – will be held at Rensselaer Farmers Market on Tuesday July 19 from 4-6pm. Kids Night activities will include games, food and gifts for children, all free of charge. It will be held on the south side of the Jasper County Courthouse at 110 W. Harrison St. with more than 20 businesses and organizations on hand.

• LIBRARY BOARD: The Jasper County Public Library Board Budget Committee will meet on Wednesday, July 27 at 8:30 am in the Rensselaer Library meeting room. The committee will review the 2023 budget recommendations. Meetings are open to the public.

• WHEATFIELD COMMUNITY PICNIC: On July 16, a free community picnic in Wheatfield will be offered starting at 3:00 p.m. The event will take place at Centennial Park in Wheatfield and everyone is welcome. There is no cost for food or festivities. Food includes roast pork, burgers, and hot dogs. The community is invited to bring side dishes and desserts. The picnic is sponsored by the Community Impact Maker, the Wheatfield Chamber of Commerce, the Town of Wheatfield and Cakes Cups. The regular market will also be held on July 16 from 9 a.m. to noon.

• LIBRARY BOARD: The Jasper County Library Board will meet Monday, July 11 at 6:00 pm in the Rensselaer Library meeting room. Meetings are open to the public.

• WHEATFIELD DAYS — The Wheatfield Days Farmer’s Market continues on the first and third Saturdays through September 3 at Centennial Park from 9 am to noon. New and regular vendors will have a variety of items to sell and fun activities are planned for each market. • REMINGTON CITY COUNCIL: The Remington City Council will meet on Monday, August 1 at 6:30 pm EST at the Remington Depot at 16 E. South Railroad St. in Remington.

• FREE MOVIE BOARD: Fountain Stone Theaters in Rensselaer has announced its lineup of free children’s movies for the summer. Films will be screened every Thursday from June 8 to July 28 at 10:30 a.m. Doors open at 10 a.m. and concession specials will be available. This year’s lineup includes Tom & Jerry (June 9), Peter Rabbit 2 (June 16), Boss Baby: Family Business (June 23), Space Jam: A New Legacy (June 30), Paw Patrol: The Movie (June 7 July), Addams Family 2 (July 14), Clifford The Big Red Dog (July 21), and Sing 2 (July 28).

• SUMMER AVIATION CAMP: The Jasper County Airport Summer Aviation Camp will be held July 18-22 from 8-11 am each day at the airport. The camp is open to students in grades 8-12 and space is limited. Experience aviation hands-on with drones, hear from industry professionals, join a Purdue Aviation Campus Tour, and receive possible flight time. Register on www.jaspercountyairport.com. • REMINGTON PARK COUNCIL: The Remington Park Council will meet on Thursday, August 11 at 6:30 pm EST at Remington City Hall.

• FARMERS’ MARKET: The Rensselaer Farmers’ Market will open along the south side of the Jasper County Courthouse throughout the summer. The market, which offers seasonal fruits and vegetables, micro-vegetables, beef, pork, chicken, fresh baked goods and other specialties, will be open every Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. from May to October .

• JCSWCD MEETINGS: The Jasper County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) holds monthly meetings of the Board of Directors on the fourth Tuesday of each month, unless otherwise specified. Meetings are held at the SWCD Education Building at the Jasper County Fairgrounds and begin at 3 p.m. CST. These meetings are open to the public. • EMERGENCY PLANNING: The Jasper County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) held its first meeting on February 10 via Zoom at 5:30 PM CST. Dates for other meetings include April 14, June 9, August 11 (tabletop exercise), October 13, and December 8. Meeting times will be decided later. Zoom in on access information to track as meetings approach. The public is invited to attend virtually.

• NEW GALLERY HOURS: The Lilian Fendig Gallery and Prairie Arts Council office will have new hours. The gallery and the office will be open Tuesdays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, contact the PAC office at (219) 866-5278.

• BE A FIRE FIGHTER: The Rensselaer Fire Department is currently accepting applications for volunteer firefighters. No experience is necessary to apply. The department will provide all training and PPE free of charge. You must be at least 19 years old, live within six miles of the city limits, and have the time to be a dedicated person. Requests can be picked up at the first station Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• NARCOTICS ANONYMOUS: The Narcotics Anonymous support group will meet Tuesdays at 7:00 pm at Nazarene Church Fellowship Hall in Rensselaer. This is an in camera meeting. Now is the time to listen and share your experiences, strengths and hopes. The group helps people with life’s problems and additions one day at a time.

• BIRTHRIGHT OF RENSSELAER: Birthright of Rensselaer is open at normal capacity at 331 S. College Avenue. Hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Curbside service is still available. For more information, call 866-4555.

• 500 CLUB REGISTRATION: The Rensselaer 500 Club, Rensselaer’s only Athletic Booster Club, is running a membership campaign. The cost is $60 per year and semi-annual cash draws are held for cash prizes of $500. Your membership helps support Rensselaer High School and College Teams, St. Augustine Teams, RBI Baseball, SJC Youth Soccer League, Youth Basketball, Summer Swim Team, Pop Warner and more.
