The Church of Apostolic Faith, West and Central Africa (WECA) has begun the platinum jubilee of its missionary works in Africa with a week-long program at its headquarters, Anthony Village, Ikorodu Road, Lagos.

The Church’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Kayode Adeleye, who announced it in Lagos on Friday, said the Church has planned a series of activities to mark its 75th anniversary in Africa.

He said the week-long activities, which began on Monday, would feature activities within the framework of the church’s 75 years of missionary work in Africa.

The church was founded by Reverend Timothy Oshokoya, along with Lucas Obakoya and DT Robins in 1944. The founding took place two years after Oshokoya received gospel tracts from the mother church of the US Apostolic Faith International, which was founded by the Reverend Florence Crawford in 1906. It is headquartered in Portland, Oregon, USA

On November 8, 1944, the first evangelistic service of the Apostolic Faith was held in Lagos, with eight people present.

The apostolic faith mission has grown in Africa since then, with chapters spread across Nigeria and Africa.

During the platinum jubilee celebration, Adeleye said the week-long activities would include showing documentaries about church milestones at the headquarters in Anthony Village, among others.

“There is an ongoing documentary program on the missionary work of the Apostolic Faith Church in Africa at Anthony’s headquarters, where we also have a screening of past sermons by veterans of the church.

“There will be exhibition programs and a youth service on Saturday where young people will sing melodious songs in commemoration of the anniversary of the church.

“In addition, there will be a special youth service on Sunday and a group photo, while on Monday there will be a birthday service and cutting of the cake at the Anthony Village headquarters.

“Interested members of the public can also listen to the audiotape of church veterans on the Apostolic Faith app, called ‘AFM Heritage, which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store,’ he said.
