Reverend Joseph Felix Mensah, president of the Apostolic Council of the Great Commission Church International, says the church has failed in its responsibility to nurture people of integrity and sound character.

He explained that the foundation of the church was based on the Holy Bible, which taught moral principles such as love and compassion, which would lead Christians to avoid greed, bribery and corruption. that affect the moral fiber of society.

At a forum Thursday to discuss how the church could help build integrity and character to ensure good governance, Reverend Mensah said issues of morality and integrity were no longer a major concern, especially in educational institutions.

It was organized by Advocates for Christ Ghana at the Interdenominational Church of Legon, University of Ghana on the theme: “Ghana @ 65: Assessing the Role of the Three Branches of Government and the Church in Promoting Good Governance “.

He called on churches to bring Christians to adhere to biblical principles of godliness, adding, “The church has a moral foundation in the Bible to uphold integrity. So if someone builds his conscience on the scriptures, he cannot take bribes, be corrupt, steal while in government, or abuse state property.

He said that some instructors working in some educational institutions come from a variety of backgrounds, who identify and promote anti-moral ideologies and beliefs.

Reverend Mensah said it made problems in society worse, lowering moral standards and integrity.

This, he said, required the forum to address the apparent “moral collapse”, which was negatively affecting facets of society and ridiculing the Christian faith.

“The Church has done well in providing education and employment to some extent. However, he does not do well in working on the character of the Ghanaians. The church needs to up its game in this area or we will continue to have a situation where we have many Christians without character of their own,” he said.

Until the Church helps to actualize the Bible in the lives of Christians and preaches moral sermons to transform the people, Ghana will continue to be plagued by immorality including corruption, the Rev. Mensah.
