Speaker of the Georgian Parliament visits Yerevan – Civil.ge


Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashili today started a two-day trip to Yerevan, where he has already met with his Armenian counterpart Alen Simonyan.

The two presidents discussed parliamentary ties, including ties between friendship groups and sectoral committees and expressed readiness to further strengthen cooperation, the Georgian Parliament’s press service reported.

President Simonyan told his Georgian colleague that the Armenian government’s 2021-2026 action plan envisages further developing “special good neighborly” relations with Tbilisi, according to the Armenian National Assembly press release.

Referring to regional security and the consequences of the 2020 war over Nagorno-Karabakh, the Armenian parliamentary speaker stressed the importance of a high level of ties between Tbilisi and Yerevan to ensure security in the South Caucasus, according to the same report.

The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament is also due to meet with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and head of the Apostolic Church of Armenia Catholicos Karekin II.
