BEEKEEPERS ‘SCHOOL REGISTRATION – Heart of Virginia Beekeepers host a beekeeping school at the Prince Edward County Extension Office. The school consists of four classes, January 26, February 8, February 16 and February 23 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., plus a field day, the date of which has not yet been set. RAFFLE TICKET FUNDRAISING – Randolph District Volunteer Fire Department raffles an 8 × 8 Old Hickory building donated by Wilck’s Lake Sheds. The building is valued at $ 2,500. Consult an auxiliary member or firefighter or call (434) 547-3672 to obtain your tickets. Prize draw on February 12, 2022.

WATCH NIGHT SERVICE – The Church of the Apostolic Faith of All Nations located at 1358 Sheppards Road, Farmville, will be hosting a night watch service on Friday, December 31 at 10 p.m. The pastor of the church is Dr. Wendy Lyle-Jones. The guest speaker for this event is District Elder Betty L. Jones. Everyone is welcome to attend.

WATCH NIGHT SERVICE – Calvary Baptist Church, located at 1144 William Hendricks Drive, Prospect, will be hosting a night watch service at 11 p.m. on Friday, December 31.

WATCH NIGHT SERVICE – The First Rock Baptist Church in Prospect will be hosting a vigil service on Friday, December 31 from 11 p.m. Pastor James Hurt, Jr. is the pastor. The church is located at 66 First Rock Road in Prospect.

WATCH THE NIGHT CELEBRATION – The Jericho Baptist Church located at 615 Franklin Street, Farmville, will be hosting an evening vigil on Friday, December 31 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Join Pastor, Dr. James Taylor, III and the Jericho Baptist Church family in this spirit-filled worship experience. . Social distancing and face mask mandatory.

GUEST PREACHER – The High Bridge Baptist Church located at 2526 Lockett Road in Rice will have the Reverend Patricia Castillo as a guest preacher on Sunday, January 2 at 10 a.m. Mask required.

JANUARY 4

MEETING OF BEEKEEPERS – Heart of Virginia beekeepers will meet at 7 p.m. at the Prince Edward County Extension Office located at 100 Dominion Drive, Farmville near Lowe’s. Benjamin Marietta will give a presentation on electric fences for beehives. Also on the program, more information on the bee school. Anyone with bees or interested in bees is welcome. BIBLE STUDY – First Baptist Church of Dillwyn, located at 16980 Oak St., Dillwyn will host a Bible study on Tuesday, January 4 from 10 a.m. to noon.

ALZHEIMER GROUP OF CAREGIVERS – The Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group will meet in person on January 5 from 2 to 3 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church located at 1301 Milnwood Road, Farmville. COMMUNITY LUNCH – Payne Memorial UMC located at 1 Stoney Point Road, Cumberland, will host a community lunch on Wednesday January 12 at noon.

SPAGHETTI FUNDRAISER – Payne Memorial UMC located at 1 Stoney Point Road, Cumberland, will host a spaghetti fundraiser for tornado victims on Friday, Jan.21 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Eat in or take out.

JANUARY 22

LOSS AND MOURNING WORKSHOP – Two Elder Guides present a Transition Through Loss and Grief workshop to help those who are grieving the loss of a loved one or another significant loss in their life. Grieving is a difficult journey that requires support.

DILLWYN’S FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH – First Baptist Church of Dillwyn located at 16980 Oak St., Dillwyn hosts Sunday school at 10 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m. on Sunday mornings.

PARKING SERVICE – The regular church service at Mercy Seat Baptist Church will begin at 11 a.m. on the first Sunday in December, December 5.

CHURCH OF CHRIST OF PIEDMONT – Piedmont Church of Christ located at 1405 North Main St., Farmville hosts a Bible study at 9:30 am Sunday morning and church service begins at 10:30 am. The church also hosts a Bible study at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings. The church has a free clothing donation on Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. weather permitting.

BAPTIST CHURCH OF JERICHO – The Jericho Baptist Church located at 615 Franklin St., Farmville will have praise and worship in the sanctuary every Sunday at 11 a.m., service live on Facebook every Sunday and in or near the parking lot, tune in to 88.1 FM. The Rev. Dr. James H. Taylor, III is the pastor.

CORNERSTONE BAPTIST CHURCH – Cornerstone Baptist Church located at 18 Horsepen Road, Farmville, will change hours of service. The hours of the church service and Sunday school will change from November to April 2022. Sunday school will start at 9:30 am in the lodge and the worship service will begin at 11:00 am. Park and Praise and in-person worship services on the second, third and fourth Sundays will continue. The church will always follow CDC COVID-19 guidelines.

Mourning support group – The Farmville United Methodist Church (FUMC) offers a bereavement support group for those who have suffered recent or long-term losses. It is an ecumenical group welcoming anyone who has experienced loss. The group meets the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 2 p.m. at the FUMC located at 212 High St. Participation in the discussion while attending the sessions is optional. CHURCH SERVICES – Beginning Sunday, October 10, Sharon Baptist Church in Cumberland will have three options for worshiping on Sunday: indoor service at 10 a.m., mask required; Radio parking service at 10 a.m. on 89.7 FM. and the YouTube service later Sunday afternoon.

PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF FARMVILLE – Farmville Presbyterian Church at 200 West Third St. will have a service in service every Sunday at 11 a.m. Join us and Reverend Pete Smith on Sunday mornings in person or enjoy the audio of our services on the church website. FOOD DISTRIBUTION – Delma’s Pantry in Cumberland County will be hosting a curbside food distribution at Cumberland Middle School on the second, third and fourth Fridays of the month at 9:30 a.m. every Friday. Senior boxes will be distributed during the distributions.

AMATEUR RADIO MEETING – The Charlotte County Amateur Radio Club meets the first Sunday of the month at the Drakes Branch Municipal Building located at 4800 Drakes Main St. at 3 p.m. If you have any questions, contact Dan at (434) 210-8383.

VETERANS AFFAIRS SERVICES – American Legion Accredited Veterans Duty Officers are available to see veterans and their families at Farmville VFW on the Second and Fourth Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Veterans Service Officers can be reached at (434) 414-6504.

OLD GREEN BAPTIST – The Old Green Baptist Church will have outdoor and indoor worship services on the second and fourth Sunday of the month at 11 a.m. until further notice. Reverend Samuel F. Trent is the pastor.
