Milferd Schupbach was born in Burlington, Oklahoma on July 11, 1922, the son of Sam and Rose Frieden Schupbach, and died peacefully at Kiowa District Hospital on June 12, 2022.

He attended schools in Burlington and graduated in 1940. In 1942 he volunteered, joined the Army Air Corps and was stationed in the United States and Guam in the South Pacific. After being released in 1946, he was a farmer until 1986, when he retired.

In 1949, Milferd and Elna Mae Rathjen of Enid, Oklahoma, were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Lahoma. After retiring from farming, Milferd prepared and restored furniture for himself and others. He also worked in the garden and grew flowers. He had been fishing since the time his grandfather took him.

He is predeceased by his parents, Sam and Rose; his wife, Elna Mae; brothers, Richard and Leon; and her sisters, Doris and Nelda.

Milferd is survived by his children, Tom and Sherry Schupbach and Peggy and David Dowell; grandchildren, Bradley and Summer, Samuel and Niki, Randall and Mycheille; eight great-grandchildren; and his sister, Shirley Nelson.

Milferd’s funeral service will be held Friday, June 17, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Apostolic Cemetery near Burlington. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc., of Kiowa. The screening will take place on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Facebook: Lanman Funeral Home Inc.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Burlington Education Foundation through the funeral home.
