Marie Cooper, 92, former resident of Calumet, died Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Vista Springs Assisted Living.
She was born on January 31, 1930 in Allouez, daughter of William and Hannah (Jarvela) Karjalainen. She attended schools in the township of Allouez and graduated from Lycée Calumet with the class of 1948.
After high school, Marie was employed as a secretary for the Calumet and Hecla Mining Company from 1948 to 1956.
Marie was united in marriage to Philip Cooper on August 20, 1955. Philip predeceased her on January 28, 1991.
Mary was a life member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, her sisters Betty, Dorothy, Martha, Verna, Norma and her brothers Gabriel, Raymond, Wesley, William G. and John.
She is survived by her sons: Tim (Janet Cox) Cooper of Waukegan, Illinois, James (Sherri) Cooper of Milford, Michigan; his grandchildren: Brian, Bruce, Karen (Tim) Hohmann, Kristen, Bradley (Heather) Cooper, Sarah (Grant) Raasakka, Aaron (Lea), Matthew (Lydia), Kyle, Katie and Mary; his great-grandchildren: Scott, Evan, Colin, Steven, Audrey, Emma, Maya and Aidan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church with Mark Halonen officiating. Friends can call the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
Interment will be at Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
