Laurene Marie Dempewolf, 75, North Platte


Laurene Marie (Olson) Dempewolf, 75, of North Platte, passed away peacefully on Sunday September 11, 2022 at Linden Court Nursing Home.

Laurene was born November 20, 1946 in McCook, daughter of George and Laura (Bruggeman) Olson.

During her early years, Laurene grew up in rural northwest Kansas in Selden and Dresden. After her father died in 1958, her family moved to Oberlin, Kan. She attended primary school in Leoville; Jr. High in Oberlin, Kan.; high school at the Apostolic School of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Concordia, Kan. and completed his CNA training at the Good Samaritan in Oberlin later in life.

On April 22, 1967, she married Donald L. Dempewolf and from this union were born four children. Laurene babysat, ironed, cleaned houses and worked at the Dairy Inn for years when her own children were young.

She continued to clean houses weekly for many older, working women and kept a good friend every once in a while over the years. She worked at Sacred Heart Catholic Church as a secretary for nine years. She worked as a CNA at the Cedar Living Center; worked in Oberlin’s thrift store; and at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home for twelve years.

She, along with her husband and daughter, also cleaned the Oberlin Clinic every night for five years. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oberlin where she served as Eucharistic Minister, Reader, Parish Council and President of the Altar Society three times. She brought communion to the homebound and the sick, and her family cleaned the church for several years.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Widows and Friends of Oberlin. On November 5, 2016, she moved to North Platte and became very active in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She was a member of Without a Spouse, Catholic Daughters, Rosary Group and Golden Girls.

Those who cherish Laurene’s memory are her son, Larry Dempewolf of Central City; daughters, Donna (Kevin) Juenemann of Kansas City, Kan. and Jennifer (Tony) Krajewski of North Platte; brothers, Jim (Dari) Olson and Bernard Olson, both of McCook; sister, Georgene (Lyle) Carstenson of Newton, Kan.; sisters-in-law, Marian Dempewolf, Jean Dempewolf and Dianne Kleidosty; brother-in-law, Myron Kleidosty; six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Laurene was predeceased by her parents; husband, Donald; son, Michael; 16 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and many other loved ones.

A Christian burial memorial mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 17 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Reverend Joseph Kadaprayill officiating. Cemetery service and interment will follow at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Colby, Kan. Visitation will be Friday, September 16 from 1 to 7 p.m., with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Carpenter Memorial Chapel, followed by the Rosary Service and Christian Revival at 7 p.m.

Carpenter Memorial Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or the North Platte Area Food Bank.
