Suspected gunmen shot and killed a member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) working in Ekiti.
It has been established that the officer was shot while traveling in his vehicle along Oke Ako-Ajowa road in Ikole Local Government Area in Ekiti.
NSCDC spokesperson in Ekiti, Tolu Afolabi, confirmed the news to Ado Ekiti on Sunday.
Mr Afolabi said the officer was attacked by the two kidnappers on his way to his hometown from Ado Ekiti last night.
“He was shot while traveling to his hometown from Ado Ekiti on Saturday evening,” Mr Afolabi said.
He added that the kidnappers also managed to abduct passengers in the car and immediately took them into the thick forest.
“We understood that the kidnappers had succeeded in their mission by kidnapping other passengers suspected of being members of his family in the vehicle”, added Mr. Afolabi.
According to him, an investigation was already underway with the mission of arresting the criminals.
Oke Oka resident Titilayo Afun told Peoples Gazette that the incident has already caused locals apprehension.
Ms Afun said some hunters have gathered in groups and are combing the bush to rescue abductees.
“The hunters do this with the help of the police. I saw some of them on the way to church this morning,” she said.
Residents of the Oke Oka community have always complained about the unhealthy activities of Fulani herders in the area while noting that the grazing of cattle on farmland and produce has been harmful to their livelihoods and economy.
In March 2022, a cleric from the Chapel of Possibilities of the Christ Apostolic Church, Michael Adeyeye, was abducted from inside his church in Oke Ako, by armed bandits. He then escaped from the kidnappers’ lair a few days later.
