Caritas Manila grants cash assistance to dioceses affected by Typhoon Odette

Dioceses affected by Typhoon Odette received cash assistance from Caritas Manila.

Church-run Radio Veritas on Thursday said Caritas Manila had sent 2 million pesos to the Diocese of Surigao through Fr. John Young, president of Father Saturnino Urios University in Butuan City.

The social action arm of the Archdiocese of Manila also sent 1 million pesos each to the dioceses of Tagbilaran, Maasin, Talibon, Kabankalan, as well as the Archdiocese of Cebu and the Apostolic Vicariate of Taytay, Palawan.

Caritas Manila also sent 500,000 pesos to the Archdiocese of Cagayan De Oro and an additional 400,000 pesos each to the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Princesa and the Diocese of Dumaguete.

Over the weekend, Caritas Philippines also launched an appeal to help communities devastated by Typhoon Odette which left dozens dead.

Bro. Antonio Labiao, the national executive secretary of Caritas, said that many dioceses in the regions of Visayas and Mindanao were “devastated” by the typhoon.

“They urgently need construction materials, food, water and medicine. This is why we are asking for your help, ”said Labiao.
